  Dear Colleagues:

As a teacher in Department of Biology, Nankai University, a leading university in China, I am very pleased to take this opportunity to recommend one of my favorite students to your PhD program.

In September, 2004, Miss Zhang was my students in General Biology, the first professional course they take in the field. She likes it very much. I teach her in an open and interactive manner, she is active and passionate about answering class questions. Miss Zhang is bright, energetic and enthusiastic girl who loves speaking out her own ideas. She never escapes from those points of which she is skeptical. Apart from that, she often puts forward her ideas upon questions and exchanges all of her innovate ideas with me after class.

Upon ending of General Biology course, I asked my students to write an essay upon their understanding of biology. I discovered Miss Zhang’s essay was so impressive and persuasive; her careful essay comes from dozens of references to Biology literatures. In essay Miss Zhang stretched out her creative thinking upon status quo of biological research and branches in the field of biology. All of this speaks to her creative and logical and scientific thinking capability. I am gladly to say that Miss Zhang has a clear understanding about General Biology, that comprehension has been reflected fully in her essay. Therefore Miss Zhang got a full point for her essay in her class, and other students took it as model essay for granted.

I believe Miss Zhang’s industriousness, passion and dedication will make her an ideal candidate you are seeking for your program, so I highly recommend her without any hesitation to you. And I will greatly appreciate it if you could accept her into your program.

  Sincerely yours,

  Prof. xx

I am pleased to write this letter for my former student Miss Cathy, who graduated from this College with an L.B. degree in June 1978.Miss Cathy was admitted to the Department of Law of this College in 1974 through highly competitive entrance examination which is conducted annually and is open to the whole nation. Even in such a selective group. Miss Cathy made herself distinguished. As professor and dean of the College, I have access to her records of academic work and moral conduct, In her fourth year study, I instructed her in Anglo-American Laws on Trespass. So I have known her quite well. MissCathyS performance, like that in many other courses she taken, was excellent with a superior grade of 86 for the first semester, and 84 for the second semester. In our university and in other university here, 80 is considered "A" , the highest level. As far as I know, Miss Li wishes to continue her study in Law for an advanced

degree. I am sure she has had sufficient prerequisite knowledge for the subject and certainly has the ability to undertake the study. I recommend Miss Li without reservation and shall appreciate yourfavorable consideration of her application.

  To whom it may concern,

As the Director of the Department of Computer Sciences of Wuhan University of Technology, which is one of the most prestigious engineering universities in China, I deem it a pleasure to recommend Mr. Nathan Wang, one of the outstanding students in our department for admission and assistantship youre your graduate program.

Since his enrollment into our department with remarkable entrance scores, Wang has embodied the fine character of strong inquisition and industriousness in learning, which has gained him significant academic success during his college years. I am aware of his distinctive academic performance as reflected in his transcripts. He maintains a very high GPA that places him in the top 5% out of 150 through the past 3 years, winning scholarships of the department almost every year. In the College English Speech Contest organized by the Teaching Committee of Hubei Province, he excelled most of other contestants, winning the first prize in the Region-wide preliminary contest, and the third prize in the final of the provincial level, being the sole participant representing our university.

I have also discovered him to be perseverant and enthusiastic in studies and extracurricular activities. During the Military Life Experiencing period, a compulsory training program for all Chinese college freshmen upon their immediate entrance, he was granted the title of Excellent Trainee thanks to his painstaking training efforts, though the training was extraordinarily rigorous and demanding. In the past college years, he has enthusiastically taken part in many students societies, such as Computer Society, Road to American English and Literature Garden, etc, which has both seen his versatility and organizing ability by serving in quite a few positions.

Speaking of his organizing ability, I have to mention two well-known events under his active involvement and organization. One is the College Computer Festival of Hubei Province and the other is the Science and Culture Week of our school. In the first one, he was one of the chief representatives from our department to undertake this provincial level activity. His enthusiastic involvements in liaison, coordination and the contestants performance evaluation had won him the honorable title of Active Organizing Participant specially granted by our department for this important occasion. In the second one of Science and Culture Week, organized in our school in 1999, he was a chief organizer. And it was so successful that it attracted more than one thousand students to participate, who were all satisfied with this event for the opportunity of a better understanding of the past and future of science in China.

As the Director, I am deeply impressed and moved by his capability of organizing and his sense of involvement, which have been explicitly demonstrated through all his participation in these activities

A bright young man, with blazing intelligence, energy, and determination, Mr. Wang deserves my first-rate recommendation. Thus, I would unqualifiedly recommend him for admission into the Ph. D. program at your university and I will appreciate your sincere assistance to his admission.

  Sincerely yours,

In capacity as Professor of Mathematics at Fudan University?Im writing to recommend Mr. Wang Gesintosyour PhD program in Computer Science. I have known Mr. Wang since his sophomore year of college?and have acted as his thesis advisor and mentor. In my experience?he is a gifted and diligent student?and an admirably hard worker.

Wang is an impressive student because he has been forced to overcome the significant challenge of a serious illness during his freshman year. When I first met Wang in my Discrete Math class?he did not appear to be anything special to me. While his exam scores were good?they were not as high as I would now expect of him. What I didnt know then was that due to his illness?Wang was attempting to take all of the difficult early mathematics courses at one time?including Discrete Mathematics?Advanced Mathematics?Linear Algebra?and Possibilities. While most students found preparing for just one set of these exams difficult?Wang was overwhelmed by four of them. But in the end?he achieved an impressive score on the final exam?which made me conscious of his unusual determination he demonstrates when confronting difficult challenges.

Mr. Wang and I have often talked about a variety of mathematics and computer science concepts and problems. During these discussions?I always found him to be delightfully intelligent. Not only does he quickly understand the concepts and problems presented to him?he is able to analyze these problems and present solutions. But perhaps most important is that Wangs thinking is intensely rigorous. When looking at any question?he carefully scrutinizes it and if he finds any uncertain issues?he clears them up immediately. I believe this kind of thought is essential to become an excellent computer programmer.

Serving as his thesis advisor?I had a first-hand opportunity to observe the way in which Wangs mind works. In his senor thesis?Mr. Wang mainly discussed two challenging questions in regards to″ANN″. In our books in China?knowledge of ANN and its uses are very rare. Few people in China have studied this topic and consequently?the materials that are available on ANN are limited. Working on this difficult project?not only did Mr. Wang rise to the challenge?but he went above and beyond the call of duty to analyze his secondary sources and test them for accuracy in practice. In this way?he found mistakes in the book that we use. His diligence and hard work made me extremely proud of him.

Mr. Wang is an intelligent?motivated?and industrious individual. Teaching and advising him has been a delightful pleasure. I know that if given the chance to study abroad in America?he will arm himself to become a great programmer he dreams of being. He has the intelligence and background to achieve these goals - now all he needs is the opportunity. I ask that you look upon his application favorably and grant him a chance to study in your university.

  To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to serve as my formal recommendation for Andrew Fuller. Andrew has been my direct assistant for several years. He has been interested in obtaining an MBA degree for some time now and I feel that he would be an excellent candidate for your esteemed program.

During his time here, Andrew has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and a

dedication to success. His efforts have produced high quality results time and time again. Last year, Andrew developed and successfully implemented a plan to streamline our production department. The plan was a major undertaking, requiring a great deal of thought and effort on Andrew’s behalf.

Though Andrew is my assistant, he is also in an unofficial leadership role. Many of his co-workers seek his advice and support. Andrew is always there for them and is quite

comfortable in the role. I feel his budding leadership abilities will become even more effective in a business school setting.

For these reasons, I highly recommend Andrew Fuller as a candidate for your MBA program. If you have any questions regarding Andrew or this recommendation, please contact me.

Dear Prof,

As an English teacher of No. 1 Middle School of Changsha, I am very glad to recommend Miss Minliang Luo for her application to undergraduate study in Politecnico di Terino. Miss luo is one of the most talented and outstanding student I’ve ever taught, I have no doubt she will be able to prove herself in the coming study period.

Miss Luo entered into No. 1 Middle School of Changsha, the best middle school in Hunan Province, in 2008. Since then, I’ve been her English teacher for three years. Miss Luo was a very diligent and active student in my class. She invested a lot of time in practicing her oral and writing English, and became outstanding among her classmates. She was very willing to answer every question in the class and even had some interesting discuss with me. It seemed to me that she was prepared from the first beginning to pursue an abroad education degree.

According to my recalling, Miss Luo was also good at organization. There was always joy and laugh around her. She was able to make friends easily with her honesty and warm heart. As one of most popular students in the class, she had organized a lot of big activities. And I had a full ear of all kinds of good commends about those activities.

I am glad to know from Miss Luo that she is going to apply for a major in architecture. This major has been her dream for a few years. In the past three years, she showed especial interest in that field. She was able to describe more details about all kind of building, and familiar with building history. I believe she will get even more interest once she get into this field. And her carefulness and creativity will give her huge support in the future career.

With all my knowledge of Miss Luo, I have full confidence that she will have good performance in coming study and create her great career in the future. Any question may occur, please feel free to contact me with following email: Thanks a lot! Yours sincerely

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing this letter of recommendation for Mr.Caleb,my former student.I have known Mr.Caleb for more than 6 years since his freshman year at "University of Minnesota".

At that time,he took the course– "Mathematical Analysis," which I taught mainly for junior students majoring in Mathematics. To my surprise,I found he was among the few students in his class who could keep up with the pace of my lectures. Moreover,he often posed thought-provoking questions during the course. Thus it was natural that I liked discussing with this young man and became familiar with him.The more I knew him, the more I found he was talented at mathematics. As you can see,he got excellent scores on the course.

In fact,he ranked No.1 on this 270 hours course in the talented student class which has 34 intelligent others. With his outstanding talent and solid mathematical background,he also did quite well in most other courses during his undergraduate study.

By the way,you may wonder why his undergraduate scores look not so good compared to other Chinese applicants. It is easy to explain, because he belonged to the talented student class, which were required to endure harder test papers and stricter grading than most other college students did at least at "University of Minnesota".He even served as Prof.Linda s Research Assistant for one year.No one could deny his commitment to his job.As a matter of fact,Prof.Linda s electronic lab happened to be neighboring my office and I could always see him working in the lab, either repairing the instruments or helping Prof.Linda collect lab reports.Maybe one more example will demonstrate his commitment more clearly.Once he suggested compiling a FORTRAN program to solve a complicated circuit problem in his class.

In order to do that,he had to do a lot of computer work. However, because there were few computers available in our computer lab,he had to wake up at 5 a.m.in winter (please note: "Twin city" is a downtown near the north border of China,so it is pretty cold in winter and the heating system is not working very well.) to ensure the 1st position of the long waiting line for his classmates and himself! At last he and his classmates finished the program successfully with his great efforts.

As to his personality,I would like to say Mr.Caleb is a warm-hearted, honest and upright student. He was always ready to help others.During my lectures, many students got confused at some points and I could always see Mr.Caleb help them explain during breaks. In the meanwhile,I must admit that Mr.Caleb was a bit impatient sometimes.

Finally,I would like to conclude my recommendation as follows: frankly,Mr.Caleb is not a genius, but I promise his great intelligence, commitment to work and his kind nature will impress you deeply. Thus I recommend him without reservation for his admission and financial aid to your program.

Please feel free to contact me if needed.

  Sincerely Yours,

Dear Sir or Madam:

I take great pleasure in recommending Wang Yong, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program. Mr. Wang was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the SPECIAL CLASS for the GIFTED YOUTHS, my universitys unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented Chinese youngsters. It was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school. He impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of chinas scientific and technological talents. At the time, members of the Gifted Class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. Mr. Wang scored the highest grade in that exam. He also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. To my regret at the time, his English was not as good as his mathematics or physics.(缺點介紹,公正真實) But I noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his English during his five undergraduate years with us. By now, he seems to be at least as proficient in English as most of his former classmates in the Gifted Class. In my experience with Mr. Wang, I was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. I am sure that Mr. Wang will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in. So I would like to support him firmly in his quest recommendation into account when considering his application. I would greatly appreciate it you decide to accept him as he wishes.

  Dear Sir or Madam:

Mr.Newman Song was one of the undergraduate students whom I taught and my research assistant in my research programs.

  My close contact with Mr.

Song and my relatively deep understanding of his character and his academic performance qualify me as the most appropriate person to recommend this promising young man who is currently applying for a degree program at your university.

  As adviser of Mr.

Songs graduation design, I collaborated with him for more than one year.

  In this process, Mr.

Song left a very deep impression on me.

He possessed a profound understanding of the nature of mechanical engineering.

Moreover, he is rigorous in his scientific mentality and perseverant in his research stamina.

He distinguished himself from his fellow students by his exceptional capability in making important findings.

All those precious qualities are incorporated in his graduation design.

For his graduation design, Mr.Song concentrated on The Surface Alloy Treatment of the Cylinder Piston Ring of Desert Vehicles by Laser, which was a major challenge for an undergraduate.

The project involved a considerable amount of knowledge outside his area of specialization.

In order to ensure the successful execution of the project, Mr.

Song consulted a large amount of technical literature in those related fields and acquired all the necessary background knowledge for undertaking his research.

The project called for substantial fieldwork and experimentation and Mr.

Song tried his best to be meticulous in every detail.

He was independently responsible for the laser treatment of the product, a crucial step in the entire project, and the subsequent sampling and testing.

His personal efforts contributed importantly to the final consummation of the program.

Equally impressive is Mr.Songs innovative spirit.

During the research, he came up with quite a few valuable and constructive suggestions.

I incorporated almost all of his suggestions into the actual research.

The effectiveness of those important advices has been fully demonstrated in practice.

Another important factor that contributed to his research success is his readiness to cooperate with others.

He is adept at interpersonal communications coordination.

Consequently, all the problems that occurred in the process were smoothly and speedily worked out.

On the basis of his heretofore prominent performance, I fully believe that Mr.

Song is replete with potentials which will enable him to adapt to his future academic environment at your university.

With all the excellent research facilities and invaluable instructions by the renowned professors that your university provide,

  Yours Faithfully

  Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Dear sir or madam,

As the Vice Dean of School of International Business, Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU), I am writing with pleasure to recommend Wang Ye to your esteemed university.

I got to know her personally since 20XX as I was her class advisor. And I taught her International Economics. In my course, she showed her craving for knowledge. She often read relative economic books to enrich herself. And she also asked me to recommend some text books and materials to study. When she had confusion, she always tried her best to figure out the question.

Miss Wang is a self-motivated student. For all I know, her average score is over 85 and she won scholarships every year in the past three years. Therefore, she was selected into the experimental class in the third academic year. This class consists of the best students of Department of International Economics and Trade, Department of Economics and Department of Finance. What’s more, she practiced in a small company to gain experience during the winter and summer vacations.

I am confident that she will be qualified and perform as well as she did in TFSU. Therefore, I recommend her with enthusiasm. I hope that you will consider her application favorably. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need more information.

  Dear Colleagues:

As Dean and President of Academic Committee of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering Department in Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, which enjoys high reputation in Asian telecommunication field, I am very pleased in recommending Mr.

Gregory Tang to study in your renowned university.

I was his teacher of the compulsory course of encoding and data processing and the director of his graduation thesis.

And we also had very close contact when he was the chief editor of our departmental newspaper, so I knew him quite well about his academic performance and personal character.

In my course of encoding and data processing, he revealed keen appetite for knowledge by his attentive and active class participation.

His well-founded mastery of the course supported by his solid mathematics background won him the first place in the class with the term final score of 96, topping all of his fellow students.

His remarkable performance in this course had given me very deep impression.

Mr.Gregory Tang is well known in the department for his diligence and perseverance in study and researches.

When he was taking part in SONY Cup National University and College Students Electronic Design Competition, I could always find him doing experiments in the lab, even late at night.

And the AI Electric Scoreboard System designed by his team finally won the 2nd prize after intense competition with electronic aces from every corner of this country.

In November 1999, the appraisal team decided to recommend Mr.

Gregory Tang to be enrolled as graduate students with exemption of entrance exams.

But at last because of his personal pursuit and plan of development, he abandoned this recommendation.

I respected his choice of personal orientation though I felt his refusal of this offer a pity.

Before his graduation, he mentioned to me in a conversation that he planned to work for two years and then would apply to study abroad.

I felt quite glad of his plan as by my knowledge this university is of great fame and I also believe he can further enhance his capabilities of every aspect in this field if educated in a more liberal academic environment.

Therefore, I hereby strongly support Mr.

Gregory Tang‘s application to be enrolled by your program.

And his extraordinary performance I have learned through direct or indirect contacts, along with his working experience in R&D of Hutchison Telecommunications have made me convinced that he will be an outstanding candidate deserving your favorable consideration.
