提起美國社區(qū)大學，至今不少人的反應(yīng)依然是：太Low了，不就是大專職校么?正經(jīng)學生誰會千里迢迢花美元讀這個?
誠然，絕大部分美國社區(qū)大學肩負著職業(yè)教育和基礎(chǔ)高等教育的責任，方便居民就近入學。它們多數(shù)都有升學通道，即在完成兩年社區(qū)大學的學習，學分達到一定要求后，就可以申請轉(zhuǎn)入四年制大學，最終所獲學位完全以畢業(yè)學校為準。發(fā)展至今，不少財力充足、地段優(yōu)越的社區(qū)大學已經(jīng)將培養(yǎng)學生杰出的學術(shù)能力作為宗旨，把保證學生升入優(yōu)秀的四年制大學當作主業(yè)，與頗多名校簽訂了保證轉(zhuǎn)學協(xié)議(transfer admissionguarantee，簡稱TAG，滿足申請要求保證100%錄取)，其中不乏名校。
正因如此，有能力但差點火候的中國留學生開始將社區(qū)大學作為跳板，韜光養(yǎng)晦兩年再一鳴驚人轉(zhuǎn)入名校。對于那些家庭不富裕的學生，社區(qū)大學低廉的學費也能為他們節(jié)省大筆費用，以更為劃算的方式完成學業(yè)。此外，經(jīng)過社區(qū)大學的過渡和緩沖，轉(zhuǎn)學后的學生在名校里表現(xiàn)更好，后勁更足。

美國社區(qū)大學超過1600多所，教育質(zhì)量參差不齊，加之國人對其陌生，難以選擇。即使有若干排名，也是依照美國價值觀，偏重考察職業(yè)教育表現(xiàn)，并不適合以升學為最終目的的中國學生參考。把社區(qū)大學當作跳板本身即存在風險，必須周密計劃，切實行動，首要的則是選擇一所轉(zhuǎn)學有保障的院校。
社區(qū)大學雖為中國學生提供了更多升入名校的機會，但并不等于進入最佳社區(qū)大學就拿到了名校入場券，例如某些專業(yè)轉(zhuǎn)學率極低或不接受轉(zhuǎn)學生，學分轉(zhuǎn)換存在折損等。怎樣利用好社區(qū)大學，如何規(guī)避其中的風險，學生自己還應(yīng)多做功課。
