1. 表示“知識(shí)”，是不可數(shù)名詞;表泛指意義時(shí)，其前不用任何冠詞。如：
Knowledge begins with practice. 認(rèn)識(shí)從實(shí)踐開始。
要表示對(duì)知識(shí)了解的程度，可用 a little, some, much 等修飾，但不可用 a few, many 等修飾，也不能用復(fù)數(shù)形式。如：
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.(諺語(yǔ))一知半解是很危險(xiǎn)的。
2. 表示某人對(duì)某一具體事物或具體學(xué)科的知識(shí)時(shí)，也是不可數(shù)名詞，但可在其前使用不定冠詞(此時(shí)的不定冠詞大致相當(dāng)于 some)。如：
He has a wide knowledge of history. 他有廣泛的歷史知識(shí)。
We need a secretary with a knowledge of English. 我們需要一位懂英語(yǔ)的秘書。
當(dāng)然，不用不定冠詞而用其他類似詞也是可能的。如：
He has much knowledge of music. 他很懂音樂知識(shí)。
3. 表示“有關(guān)……的知識(shí)”，通常要用 the knowledge of 這樣的結(jié)構(gòu)，一般不直接用有關(guān)名詞(形容詞)置于其前作定語(yǔ)。如：
He is interested in the knowledge of chemistry. 他對(duì)化學(xué)知識(shí)很感興趣。
My knowledge of English is poor. 我的英語(yǔ)知識(shí)很貧乏。
但是，英語(yǔ)一般不說：French (physics, history, music) knowledge
4. 漢語(yǔ)常說“學(xué)習(xí)知識(shí)”，但英語(yǔ)中一般不將 knowledge 與動(dòng)詞learn, study 連用，而用 get, gain, obtain, acquire 等來表示“獲得(學(xué)到)知識(shí)”。如：
When he was in France he got [gained] an excellent knowledge of French. 他在法國(guó)期間學(xué)會(huì)了地道的法語(yǔ)。
5. 習(xí)語(yǔ) common knowledge 的意思是“大家都知道的事”，也就是“常識(shí)”。如：
It’s common knowledge that he’s a compulsive gambler. 大家知道，他是個(gè)嗜賭成癖的賭徒。
It is common knowledge that the traffic situation there is deplorable. 那里的交通情況可悲可嘆是盡人皆知的。
6. 比較 to one’s knowledge 與 come to one’s knowledge：前者意為“據(jù)某人所知”，后者意為“為某人知曉”。如：
To my knowledge, he has never been late before. 據(jù)我所知他從未遲過到。
The story came to our knowledge later. 我們后來知道了這件事。
